East African Scholarship Fund

In the student centerWe believe that one of the many things that needs to happen in order for sustainable development to grow and thrive in East Africa is for qualified East Africans to be given the opportunity for further education and academic training. Many will have opportunities to receive such training in their home countries, but a few will have the ability and the desire to pursue higher education abroad. We think that, if done well, providing such opportunities for qualified people can enhance and sharpen the contributions that they can make to their own societies throughout a lifetime, and can thus further the goals and objectives of the Kibo Group.

Snow!

The East African College Scholarship Fund will channel contributed funds to specially selected colleges and universities in the United States in order to make it possible for specially selected East African students to attend and obtain a college degree and then hopefully return to their country of origin. The colleges as well as the applicants will be reviewed and approved by an overseeing committee based on the principles and policies around which the Kibo Group is already organized.

Please consider giving to this fund and helping not only young, bright East African individuals, but also contributing to the future of East African societies as a whole.

Meet Sarah Ageno Bizzu and Priscilla Batamuliza!Sarah

Sarah Ageno and Priscilla Batamuliza are the first participants of the East African College Scholarship Funds. Both of these young ladies are from Jinja, Uganda, and both energetic and gifted. They are now both enrolled as full time students at Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Sarah is a pre-med major and is interested in becoming a medical Priscillaprofessional and serving in that capacity in Uganda. Priscilla is a business major and will use this educational opportunity to address many of the social and personal issues found in Uganda. These are delightful young women who are already showing themselves to be capable and responsible for these remarkable opportunities.

Rochester College not only has provided generous scholarships for these two, but there is also a community of people at Rochester who have lived in Uganda for many years and who can provide these young ladies assistance in the many challenges and opportunities that they will face during their education. Friends of Kibo have also helped provide school and living supplies, as well as clothes to help Sarah and Priscilla survive the Michigan winters! The two are also working on campus and paying toward their own room and board costs. But we are still in need of a significant amount of money to meet the remainder of their educational expenses and to see them through degree completion.
